1. Library Update

  • Library Renovations – Complete Library renovation funding was approved.
  • Library is moving into the design phase and is hosting the architects and engineers for a site visit soon.
  • Phasing will be planned in the near future.

2. Harrell HSL Collections

David presented the Ghana project. The project removed a large number of largely unused and superseded books from our shelves. As well as bound journals that we have access to in electronic format. The book and journals are being donated to Mount Crest University in Ghana, with whom PSCOM has a partnership with.

Lauren gave a short presentation on usage statistics and marketing for Anatomy.TV. She started by explaining the license, stakeholders and selection process.

  • In FY2013-2014, there were 1282 total sessions. The highest usage was in July and August, when training sessions for Anatomy.TV were offered, as well as the 1st year medical students anatomy course. Following the months of high usage, the number of sessions dropped to below 50 each month, sometimes lower than 20 sessions.
  • The HHSL started a marketing campaign for Anatomy.TV, which involved creating an anatomy guide, visiting medical students in class, distributing handouts, digital signage, and personal librarian emails.
  • In the first five months of FY2014-2015, there were already 1685 user sessions, 403 more than the entire previous fiscal year. Numbers rose sharply in October and November, which coincided with marketing efforts and anatomy blocks.

3. ORCID Campaign

Robyn summarized the new ORCID Id Program. Going over what publishers and funding agencies use the ORCID ID program and which ones will be switching over to use this program. Some of the publishers using the program now are Elsevier, and Nature Publications. NIH is not using this program as of yet, but will switch over In the future. Penn State University is a member of the ORCID ID Program.

Robyn also went over different areas of the hospital and college that this program has been presented at. She is presenting it at ROAR group meetings, New Faculty Orientation and David Brennan discussed the program in the RAQ meeting.

The ORCID program is not only for faculty members, it is also good for Staff, students and anyone who has published.
