1. Library Update

  • Cynthia introduced Amy Knehans our new Clinical Outreach, Liaison and Instruction Librarian to the committee. Any comes to from the University of Hawaii
  • Budget – The library was granted an increase of $200,000 of permanent dollars for the collection fund. We were also give one time purchase dollars for Primal Pictures the cost was split with University Park. We have added more Nature Titles, and the Medical Letter. Hershey and University Park have spent $18,000,000 this year.

2. New Resources/New Systems in the Harrell Health Sciences Library

The new Harrell HSL website is tentatively going live Dec 2013. Hopefully the new website will give us more flexibility with new tools and widgets. Lauren is working with University Park to move this forward and Lauren will be contacting selected users to test and get feedback (i.e. faculty, staff, students etc) prior to launch. We have to remember that this site is for users and their options. Brandon Smith asked if this would affect pediatric pages etc. It was explained that the problems accessing in variable ways are due to the publishers (vendors). The single sign in will make access easier.

When we moved to Serials Solutions the Life and Health sciences titles were scoped and we added nursing.

3. Questions/concerns from faculty?

Vicky Schirm noted that Elaine and Amy did a presentation for the nurses re Dynamed and Nursing Reference. Nursing is using exit care for the nurses. Dr. Schirm pointed out that Exit
Care was selected by a selected group of administrators. Dr. Smith thought that exit care can be problematic especially with items given out to patients. Library should help support physicians and nurses with the best available resources. Dr. Smith thought that problems arise with the system not the nurses. The joint commission and point of care goes back to the issue of single sign on. Dr. Schirm pointed out that it was improving. We need qualitative data to isolate HY only.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30 am
