  • NLM Civil Ware Medicine Exhibit will be hosted here in Feb-March 2013 to coincide with the 150th anniversary of Gettysburg.
  • The library is co-sponsoring with CTSI to hold a Data Management Symposium on March 26, 2013. Mike Conlon will be the keynote speaker who is well known is data management and bio-informatics.
  • READ Recognition Award will be presented for the 2nd year in October 2012 to 7 recipients who have been involved with the library in various ways throughout the years, i.e. support, committees etc.
  • Clinical Outreach, Liaison and Instruction Librarian position has been posted. We are looking for candidates with minimum 5 health sciences library or healthcare/biomedical environment experience.

2. Harrell HSL – Collections – David Brennan

  • 360 is a link resolver and David is at University Park today to discuss planning to test functionality.
  • New web design, we are going to create our own platform working with strategic services re design and logo. We need to have the ability to use tools and widgets to make our web site easier and more flexible. There is a committee formed and we have targeted summer 2013 for initial release of the new web page.

3. EBM efforts – Nancy is attending Tufts this week re their use of EBM. She has been working with Dr. Adelman to revise EBM 723 i.e. flipping classes. Will library connectivity change in terms of EBM and PBL? Initial PBL sessions will include a librarian.

4. Questions/concerns from faculty?

  • Brandon Smith asked where is the right place to insert EBM into the curriculum, is there a place for it in the 3rd year for basic science.  He expressed impressions that when EBM is taught in 1 st and 2nd year it can confuse the students, but by the time they become 3rd year it becomes much more meaningful to them. Question: how can the library staff insert themselves into each part of the curriculum?
  • Cynthia announced that the library icon will become standard on desktops. By using the icon is pushes users to our web page which takes you to the proxy page to enable
  • access.
  • Cynthia asked the committee what they thought the value of Systematic Reviews would be moving forward. What service would they like, problems arise when users confuse comprehensive search with systematic reviews. A question was asked regarding funding, should there be enough interest then we would consider subscribing to EMbase but this should would have to be funded centrally. Brandon Smith suggested that should we progress with Systematic Reviews then maybe a team of consisting of librarian, statistician, content expert be formed. There would be no charge for this service but co-authorship would be expected.

Meeting adjourned at 8:15 am
